What were the factors that made you want to transfer to Singapore?
It was mainly the opportunity try something completely new and out of my comfort zone. The combination of challenging myself with new clients, markets and studies, whilst having some of the most exciting travelling destinations in the world on my doorstep, made it the perfect opportunity! For me there was no other choice – Singapore is where I wanted to be. It’s the travelling hub of Asia and with the office being relatively new, I’d have the opportunity to use my 2 years’ experience from London to really make my mark.
How do the teams in your previous location and your current team compare?
Both teams were equally great. I’ve had the chance to work with some of the brightest people I’ve ever met, who are always keen to go out of their way to help. In fact, this is a trend across the whole of Finalta. But if I did have to pick out a difference between the two teams, it would be the size. In London I worked in a small, close-knit team –while in Singapore we do a lot more collaborative work across the whole group, due to our office being much smaller.
How was working with new clients from a different region?
This has been one of the most valuable experiences for me. I’ve had the chance to work with clients from India all the way to New Zealand. It’s fascinating to see the differences in cultures and how various markets operate. It’s helped me improve my interpersonal skills to get the most out of my client relationships. Initially my plan was to move back to London after a couple of years, but now that I’ve seen the opportunities out here, I’m not ready to come back so soon. I’d like to stay in Singapore for a little while longer!
How do you find the culture in your new city?
One of the most surprising things I found when I got here was how multicultural Singapore is – it has four official languages, English being one of them! There are incredible food options from all over Asia, which I’ve grown to absolutely love. It’s also one of the safest and most efficient cities in the world. For example, it’s normal to be able to view a property and move in the very next day. I could go on, but all of these things meant I was able to settle in very quickly!
What is one memorable experience in your previous office, and one in your new office?
I’ve had some great experiences in both offices. Whilst in London, I managed the relationships for some of our longest-standing clients across multiple projects and engagements. This helped me to develop strong client relations, but also gave me real insight into the inner workings of banks. In Singapore, I’ve had the opportunity to be APAC’s coordinator for our largest global study, which has given me the chance to work closely with Finalta colleagues globally.
How do you spend your time outside of work?
I’ve had the opportunity to do weekend trips to incredible places like Malaysia, Vietnam and Bali, which are only a couple of hours away. I’ve also been to Cambodia, Philippines and Maldives – and there’s plenty more on my list that I still want to visit! I also picked up a new hobby – scuba diving! I achieved my PADI advanced certification, and have since dived with turtles, sharks, manta rays and more. It’s definitely given me more of an excuse to travel across the region!
